Duro
Duro is a cloud PLM for hardware engineering teams, founded in 2017 in Los Angeles and now part of Altium, a Renesas Group company. Its Duro Design release adds AI validation, configurable part numbering and change workflows, with CAD links to Altium 365, SolidWorks, Onshape and NX.
Overview
Duro was founded in 2017 in Los Angeles by Michael Corr and Kellan O'Connor to give hardware start-ups and scale-ups a PLM system they could adopt without consultants. Altium acquired Duro Labs on 5 December 2025; Altium itself has belonged to Renesas Electronics since July 2024. In August 2026 Duro stated that it remains available as its own CAD-agnostic PLM platform.
In June 2025 Duro relaunched its product as Duro Design, which it describes as cloud and AI-native. The platform connects design, supply chain and manufacturing data in a digital thread and uses built-in AI for validations, impact analysis, metadata and sourcing. Administrators configure part number schemes, custom fields, validations and change order and change request workflows through UI wizards, a YAML editor or a GraphQL API. Best-practice new product introduction workflows give young engineering teams a starting structure.
Duro Design integrates with Altium 365, SolidWorks, Onshape and Siemens NX for design data, and with NetSuite, SAP, ION, Epsilon3 and Boltline for business and manufacturing systems. The integration with Altium suits teams that design electronics and mechanics in parallel. Duro does not document specific materials compliance, sustainability or Digital Product Passport features in the sources reviewed. The product fits fast-moving hardware companies in sectors such as space, robotics and defence technology that want configurable cloud PLM with low setup effort.
Key capabilities
- Cloud BOM and part management
- Configurable part numbering and fields
- Change order and change request workflows
- AI validation and impact analysis
- GraphQL API and YAML configuration
- ECAD and MCAD integrations
Strengths and considerations
Strengths
- Duro lets administrators configure part numbering, fields, validations and workflows through UI wizards, YAML or a GraphQL API without consultants.
- Ownership by Altium links Duro to Altium 365, which suits teams that manage electronics and mechanical designs together.
- Duro Design connects to NetSuite, SAP and manufacturing tools such as ION and Boltline, which supports a data flow from design to production.
Check before buying
- Duro is SaaS only and aimed at growing hardware teams, so enterprises with complex configuration or validation needs should test scalability.
- Buyers should confirm Duro's product roadmap and packaging within Altium following the December 2025 acquisition.
- Materials compliance and sustainability features are not documented, so buyers with RoHS, REACH or DPP requirements should plan for partner tools.
Best for
Fit summaryFast-growing hardware engineering teams, especially Altium users, that want configurable cloud PLM with minimal setup effort.
Regulatory and compliance data
