PROCAD (Revalize)
PROCAD develops PRO.FILE, a configurable PLM, PDM and technical document management system used mainly by mid-sized engineering companies. Since 2021 it belongs to Revalize, which positions PRO.FILE alongside keytech and CPQ tools for manufacturers.
Overview
PROCAD builds PRO.FILE, a PLM system that combines product data management, CAD data management and document management based on technical structures, which the vendor calls DMStec. The company was founded in 1985 in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 2021 it merged with keytech and ACATEC to form the PROCAD Group, and at the end of that year the group was sold to Revalize, a manufacturing software group backed by TA Associates and Hg.
PRO.FILE targets mid-sized manufacturers in machinery, plant and equipment engineering. The current generation, which grew out of the PRO.FILE next platform launched in 2020, uses a low-code approach: prebuilt application packages cover common processes, and customers adjust them through configuration. Version 10 adds real-time collaboration and workflow automation, and a mobile app gives access to files and approvals outside the office. PROCAD previously marketed PROOM, a cloud service for document exchange with external partners, with the last product announcements dating from 2019 and 2020. The Revalize PROOM address now redirects to the PRO.FILE site, which does not list it, so buyers should treat PROOM as no longer marketed. In April 2026 Revalize added an optional PRO.FILE ECM module for engineering change and announced expanded web-based functions.
The product suits organisations that need engineering data, CAD files and technical documents in one controlled repository. PROCAD has prepared PRO.FILE for integration with SAP S/4HANA, and it connects to common CAD, ERP and CRM systems. Public documentation on sustainability data, materials compliance or Digital Product Passport support is limited, so buyers with regulatory reporting needs should test those scenarios directly. Roadmap decisions sit partly with the US-based parent.

- Technical document management
- Engineering change workflows
- Low-code application packages
- External partner file exchange
- Mobile approvals and access
Strengths and considerations
Strengths
- PRO.FILE combines PDM, PLM and technical document management in one system, which suits engineering firms that manage large volumes of drawings and specifications.
- Prebuilt application packages and low-code configuration shorten implementation for standard processes, and the April 2026 ECM module shows continued investment.
- The vendor has prepared PRO.FILE for SAP S/4HANA, which matters to mid-sized manufacturers running SAP ERP.
Check before buying
- Public documentation on sustainability data, materials compliance and Digital Product Passport support is limited, so regulatory scenarios need hands-on testing.
- The customer base and partner network are concentrated in German-speaking markets, which can limit local support elsewhere in Europe.
- Ownership by Revalize places PRO.FILE in a wider portfolio, so buyers should ask how investment is split between PRO.FILE and keytech.
