Trace One
Trace One provides Devex PLM, regulatory compliance and SDS software for food, cosmetics, chemicals and retail private label. Formed from the merger with Selerant and owned by Main Capital Partners since 2025, it offers packaging data collection and PPWR declaration support.
Overview
Trace One is a process manufacturing and retail PLM vendor with European headquarters in Puteaux, near Paris, and offices in New York and Shanghai. Founded in 2001, it acquired Italian-rooted formula PLM specialist Selerant in 2022 and the two companies became one in 2023. Main Capital Partners announced its acquisition of Trace One on 23 April 2025, following earlier ownership by HG Capital and STG. Its timeline lists offices in the United States, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, China, India, Serbia and Ukraine.
The flagship Trace One Devex PLM, derived from Selerant's Devex, covers formulation, specifications, labelling, artwork proofing, supplier portals and project management. Releases from 2025 and 2026 added an ingredient database integration with Covalo, DocuSign signatures, an AI extractor for PDF specifications, validity-dated product versioning and Trace One Copilot. In April 2026 three Copilot assistants were introduced for regulatory affairs, product development and supply chain data extraction, deployable on public cloud, private cloud or on-premise.
Trace One publishes a three-part PPWR framework. Its supplier portal collects packaging composition, materials, weight, recyclability, certificates and test results; automated checks test packaging against PPWR limits, including PFAS thresholds for food-contact packaging; and the system generates PPWR Declarations of Conformity with version control. Country dashboards cover French AGEC requirements through CITEO and UK filings. This depth makes Trace One one of the more documented options for packaging compliance in food and consumer goods.

Strengths and considerations
Strengths
- Trace One documents PPWR-specific functionality, including packaging data collection, PFAS limit checks and Declaration of Conformity generation.
- The combination of Trace One and Selerant brings formula-based PLM, regulatory compliance and SDS authoring under one vendor.
- Its AI assistants run on public cloud, private cloud or on-premise, which suits regulated manufacturers with data residency rules.
Check before buying
- Three ownership changes since 2016 mean buyers should review roadmap continuity and product consolidation plans.
- The platform focuses on formulated products, so apparel and footwear brands will find limited style-based functionality.
- Customers on legacy Selerant Devex versions may face upgrade projects to reach current releases.

Frequently asked questions about Trace One
What happened to Selerant?
Trace One acquired Selerant in March 2022 and the two companies operated as one from 2023. Selerant's formula-based Devex PLM continues as Trace One Devex PLM, and Selerant's EHS and SDS software sits within the Trace One portfolio alongside regulatory compliance and sustainability products.
Does Trace One support PPWR compliance?
Yes. Trace One describes a PPWR framework that collects supplier packaging data, checks packaging against PPWR limits including PFAS thresholds for food-contact materials, and generates Declarations of Conformity with audit trails. PPWR applies generally from 12 August 2026, so these features address current obligations.
Who owns Trace One?
Main Capital Partners, a European software investor, announced its acquisition of Trace One from STG on 23 April 2025, describing it as its first platform investment in France. Earlier owners were HG Capital from 2016 and Symphony Technology Group (STG) from 2021, which backed the Selerant acquisition in 2022.
